by Mike Fleming Jr October 16, 2014 11:00am Client John Singleton signs with ICM ICM Partners has signed writer/director/producer John Singleton. It comes as he prepares to direct the long gestating Tupac Shakur biopic Tupac. It’s hard to believe that it was 23 years ago that Singleton came right out of USC and changed the business with his breakout Sony hit Boyz N The Hood. The hot button picture established the urban film as a viable genre with an under served audience waiting for good films. It also made Singleton the youngest director and first African American to get an Oscar nom. He flies under the radar, but has helmed hits that include Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Four Brothers; he produced and financed Hustle & Flow, the breakout indie as well as Baby Boy and Black Snake Moan. Singleton was repped by WME. He continues with Underground manager Trevor Engelson and attorney Stephen Barnes.

USA Network has made decisions on the fate of its freshman drama series, opting to renew Satisfaction, from Universal Cable Prods., and cancel Rush, from Fox 21. Additionally I hear the network is close to giving a third-season order to the Jeff Eastin’s drama Graceland, produced by Fox TV Studios. There is no decision on USA’s first-year comedy Playing House. Created by Sean Jablonski, Satisfaction has received a 10-episod order.
